Delhi, India: Heeraben Modi, mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has died early this morning and been cremated in Gandhinagar. The final rites were performed by PM Modi, who reached Gujarat early this morning. Modi’s age was 99.
A statement from the hospital where she had been admitted since Wednesday read, “Smt. Hiraba Modi passed away on 30/12/2022, at 3:39 am (early morning, during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart Hospital).”
“A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi, and a life committed to values,” the Prime Minister wrote in a moving tweet early this morning to announce her passing.
PM Modi may participate in the events via video conferencing, as he was scheduled to launch the development projects in West Bengal.
At Raysan village, close to Gandhinagar, Heeraben Modi lived with PM Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi.
During the majority of his visits to Gujarat, the Prime Minister would frequently visit Raysan and spend time with his mother.
